Editor’s Note: Today we’ve got a guest post from LA’s favorite firkin freak Aaron Champion, founder of Cask Ale LA (where this post originally appeared). Champion relocated from Toronto to LA in 2013, and he quickly started a quest to find out where the real ales were pouring. It was a challenge and it led him to starting his website that helps drinkers connect with the casks of craft pouring throughout Los Angeles. Here he is to talk about how cask beer fits into the LA beer scene at present and in the future.
State of the Firkin by Cask Ale LA
In the last twelve months, the Los Angeles beer community has come a long way with cask-conditioned ales. We’ve seen two cask ale festivals (Firkfest and Figueroa Mountain’s Real Ale Invitational), the opening of a cask-focused taproom with Macleod Ale, and multiple breweries around town holding regular cask events. Back in November, CaskAleLA.com turned one year old and while I’m both excited and proud of the growth we have seen since we began, I thought I should share some thoughts on how this community needs to grow in 2015.
