The first kegs of beer from re-launched Angel City Brewing have begun to be tapped around town, and Test Beer B, a Belgian Wit, is their first offering. Blogdowntown has the details and an interview with the brewery’s new head Alan Newman.
Angel City Brewing was purchased by Alchemy & Science, a subsidiary of Boston Beer Co, to serve as a “craft beer incubator” and R&D lab for the craft beer giant. Run by Magic Hat Brewing founder Alan Newman Angel City Brewing’s mission is to develop new beers and to help grow the awareness of craft beer, and Los Angeles was chosen as the site of the first Alchemy and Science brewery because of our lack of other local breweries.
Alan doesn’t see the few existing local breweries as competitors but rather as “complimentary” to Alchemy & Science’s mission of promoting awareness of craft beer. New brewmaster Dieter Forstner, previously from Gordon Biersch in Arizona, shares his thoughts on the new Angel City beers in this short clip:
We are looking forward to trying some of the new brews, and are excited to be able to tour the brewery once they have all their permits in place.
