Beer Tools: Get Beer Details on Your Phone via Text Message
When you’re trying to decide on what to order for the next round time is of the essence. BeerText.us is a new service that’s a fire-and-forget method of getting details on craft beer.
The product of a weekend hackathon, BeerText.us is a free service that sends detailed information about craft beer right to your phone via SMS. You simply text the name of the beer in question to (315) 679-4711 and the service will send you back a few text messages that include the beer’s style, ABV, description, and other details that are contained in “the IMDB of breweries,” the Brewery DB.
BeerText.us is only days old, and the creators are still working on fixes and improvements. You can checkout the Reddit thread started by the creator to get some further insight into the project and to request features. The service is free (beyond whatever you pay for text messages), and our favorite thing about it is how hands-off it is. You can text a couple of beer names to the service when you order your first pint, put your phone back in your pocket, and in a minute or two you’ll have all the details you need to decide on the second round!
We’ll be adding the service to our phone’s address book and following the development.
What do you think about BeerText.us? Does it sound like a useful tool for you?

This sounds like a pretty nifty idea. Although, for people with text charges it may be an issue. I could see it being a pretty cool app in the future. I’ll try it next time I’m overwhelmed with taps
I will be back when it comes in an app. This is just a way to waste my minutes when there are other beer apps out there.
