Kickstarter and similar services have become extremely popular ways to raise funds for craft beer related projects. From commercial breweries to improvements at the local watering hole to beery products, crowdfunding has helped fuel the craft beer revolution by giving the consumer a direct connection to entrepreneurs creating goods and services that support the industry.
We’ve been vocal about our support of some past projects, and there are a few new campaigns getting underway or coming into the home stretch that we think deserve your attention.
If you were lucky enough to attend last year’s Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival you might have seen a gallery of portraits focusing on brewmasters from across the state. The photos were taken by Nicholas Gingold – and the photographer is working to turn the interviews and portraits of California’s brewmasters that he amassed over the last two years into a coffee table book.
The photos are gorgeous, and the book covers nearly 50 breweries from every corner of California – including some great shots of our beloved LA brewers (including Victor Novak, Evan Price, Jeremy Raub, and more). If you back the Kickstarter at the $30 level you get a copy of the book, and from the preview versions we got to see at the recent LA Beer Blogger Summit it should be an impressive, attractive volume showcasing the best of California craft beer.
Things are changing remarkably fast in the Golden State, and California Brewmasters will be amazing snapshot of the craft beer industry in California in the midst of all the changes and developments.
Check out the California Brewmasters Kickstarter here; the campaign runs until March 18th with a target of $25,000.
3 Weavers Brewing Company
An exciting new start-up brewery coming to, of all places, Inglewood is 3 Weavers Brewing Company. Founded by Lynn Weaver, the craft brewery has already made a splash by hiring rising superstar brewer Alex Nowell (formerly at Drakes Brewing before taking over at Kinetic Brewing in 2013 and winning a pair of GABF medals) and through a pair of collaboration beers that have piqued the interest of beer geeks around LA.
You can read all about the 3 Weavers story and their Kickstarter over on Brewbound. The crowdfunding efforts get underway officially on March 6th with a launch party at the Glendale Tap at 7pm. The brewery has a location, is working on permits and build-out, and the crowdsourced funds will go to outfitting the destination tasting room.
Kickstarter link to come once the campaign launches, until then here are the details on the brewery, the plans, and the rewards for backers.
Update: The Kickstarter campaign is now live! Check ’em out and back ’em if you’re interested.
