While this isn’t new news, it is pretty exciting! I’ve waited until things are a little closer to make any comments on the new venture from the Eagle Rock Brewery team, and last weekend I heard from Owner/Brewmaster Jeremy Raub at the Food GPS Father’s Day CollaBREWtive brunch (a fantastic event by the way) that all the final approvals were in, and that they’d be pulling permits for the build-out of the space of the new brewpub. So now that they’ve launched the social networking accounts I’d say it’s a great time to post about the new venture!
The basics are: after struggling with production capacity and the demands of distribution (typical growing pains) the ERB team decided it was time to expand their operation. Instead of jumping to a larger facility or large brew house, ERB chose to pursue the brewpub concept that was actually the original plan for the business. A historic building on Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock – that previously housed vegetarian restaurant Fatty’s – became available and Eagle Rock Brewery Public House was born!
The space will feature a full-service restaurant helmed by brewery co-founder Ting Su’s brother Jerry (who you may know from his frequent stints behind the bar at ERB’s taproom), and a 15BBL brewhouse that will turn-out specialty brews and pub-only releases. I’m particularly thrilled that Lee Bakofsky will be taking on the head brewer position at the pub – his beers are fantastic. The team plans to build-out the restaurant side of the operation first, then add the brewery side once they’ve got the kitchen running (it could take another year for permits and construction on that front).
I could go on-and-on about this expansion by ERB (and I most likely will for an upcoming BPLA feature), but suffice to say I’m stoked. Until there are more details, you can check out their website here, and follow the Public House on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
