It’s no secret that LA’s Golden Road Brewing is expanding at a furious pace. From 300 barrel fermenters being stored in the parking lot to big new additions to the Golden Road team, the brewery has outpaced everyone’s expansion expectations, and it isn’t even one year old! In a recent radio interview GRB President Meg Gill reveals some exciting details about the brewery and the pub’s expansion.
Speaking with Women Enjoying Beer’s Ginger Johnson for BeerRadio on Ashland, Oregon’s KSKQ Community Radio, Meg talks about Golden Road’s mission, her start in craft beer, and all the other topics that she’s been covering in interviews since before the brewery opened last year.
Which isn’t to say the interview, archived here, isn’t worth a listen; we found it enjoyable and informative, and host Ginger certainly knows craft beer industry so the vibe of the talk is more “two ladies talking shop” than a “puffy radio interview.” Meg also provides some hints and details about what the future holds for “LA’s Packaged Craft Brewery.”
The most interesting segment to us starts around 26:00 where Meg talks about opening the pub and what a huge undertaking developing that side of the business has been while also working on the brewing side of things. She mentions that the current license for 200 seats in the pub was just expanded to 600 seats, that they are building out an outdoor beer garden adjacent to the pub, and that they will be adding a private events space “next door” (in the red building perhaps?) Exciting developments for one of our favorite spots to grab some food and beer.
At the 14:20 minute mark the conversation turns to the brewery’s production capacity with Meg confirming that Golden Road should break the 8,000 barrel mark, and that they should begin brewing on the huge new brewhouse (over 60,000 barrel annual capacity) any day now.
Another good moment is when Meg talks about how much she likes the Berliner Weisse (one of our favorites too) at the 47 minute mark and drops some hints about “rereleasing [it] in larger quantities next April/May, and kinda do more with it…” Could this mean some GRB Berliner Weisse in cans? We sure hope so; that would be a fantastic beer for Summer 2013!
She also briefly mentions the plans for Gold Road’s 1st Anniversary party, the Better Weather Fest (Facebook link), at the 17 minute mark, and it sounds pretty exciting! Tickets are on-sale now for the September 22 beer festival that will be a great way to kick off LA Beer Week!
