Do you have a beer lover in your life and are unsure what to give them this year? We’ve got you covered with the best gifts, from apparel to glasses to gadgets, for all the beer-lovers on your list. We’ve got all our picks in each category after the jump.
There are many options for beer-related gifts and products, and we’re breaking them down and posting different recommendations every day. We’ve highlighted our favorites in each category on this page, and there is a link in each that will take you to a post with more detailed recommendations for that category.
Beer of Tomorrow Pick: Fresh, Local Growlers
Our favorite option for gifting beer is to give a growler of something fresh and local. With one gift you can support the local scene, provide a couple litres of liquid revelry, and set up the recipient to continue to support local craft beer!
With a little pre-planning you can grab a couple of new growlers from the local brewery, have them filled with something fresh and delicious, and give them along with a gift certificat for another fill. This way you get to share some of the beer, but you don’t have to feel bad about drinking your gift as the first refill is already covered!
Beer of Tomorrow Pick: Tasting Beer by Randy Mosher
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is an engaging read that covers the history of beer, the methods of tasting and appreciating beer, the development of styles, and everything in between. It feels like I learn something new about beer every time I pick it up.
Beer of Tomorrow Pick: 16oz Tulip Glass
We don’t have a specific brand recommendation (our previous favorite was discontinued), but our go-to beer glass is a 16oz tulip. The size is great for 12oz bottle or splitting a bomber, the shape works great for most ales (and is especially good for IPAs and Belgian styles), and they are easy to find.
Beer of Tomorrow Pick: A Local Brewery’s Shirt
Our choice for the best apparel gift is a shirt from one of LA’s many home-town breweries. What better way to support the local craft beer culture than by giving a gift that directly supports your favorite local brewers and helps spread the word about LA’s burgeoning craft beer scene!
Beer of Tomorrow Pick: Tasting Notebooks
Taking notes while tasting beer is a crucial skill that helps develop your palate and provides valuable insight into the magic of craft beer. There are many options available for tasting notebooks, but our favorite, and winner of our Tasting Journal Face-Off, is the line of 33 Bottle of Beer note books.
These made-in America journals are compact, inexpensive, and intuitive. Filling them out is simple and actually fun, and we’ve found that we take better notes more often when we carry one around. There are also tasting journals available for wine, whiskey, cheese, coffee, chocolate, cigars, and hot sauces, and at around $4 each, they make great gifts for co-workers and other people on your “little gifts” list.
