Pick of the Weekend Memorial Day 2012

Monday is here, and it’s time to start another week. Pick of the Weekend is our weekly post where we recap our favorite brews of the weekend past…
We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Holiday weekend; we tried a bunch of new-to-us brews, and we’re excited that Summer is finally here!
A couple of weeks ago a friend brought us a care-package from the St. Louis Brewery, better known as Schlafly, and we’ve been working our way through the sampler of their many styles since. Both the Yakima Wheat and their Kolsch were sampled this weekend, and the Yakima Wheat is our favorite Schlafly beer yet! It is light and refreshing, with energetic carbonation and lots of hop aroma and flavor. This would be a fantastic beer for summer BBQs; it’s a real shame that Schlafly doesn’t distribute to California!
The favorite of the weekend was another beer from The Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project, who we’ve seen before in Pick of the Weekend. This week the beer was St. Botolph’s Town; a “Yorkshire Dark Brown Ale” that, like all the Pretty Things Beers, defies easy style classification. The beer is rustic and something like an full-flavored ESB with subtle smoky hints and a slightly acidic finish. A real tough beer to describe, so we recommend you find a bottle to try for yourself!
