Smog City Brewery has made some incredible IPAs and hop-forward beers. From their flagship Hoptonic to the fan-favorite Amarilla Gorilla to the ground-breaking Grape Ape experiment and the various dry-hopped and one-off versions (HopTango is particularly special), Brewer Jonathan Porter has carved out a spot among the best IPA brewers in Los Angeles. But they’ve never made a Double IPA. That changes tomorrow when Death By Hops is released in the tasting room. Find out more about the new beer after the jump.
Fresh off their 1st anniversary and the release party for their first bottle beers, Smog City is introducing the new 9.3%ABV brew on Thursday, June 12th. Here’s what the brewery has to say about Death By Hops:
Our First Double IPA, DEATH BY HOPS, (9.3 ABV) will be available in our taproom this Thursday!
We used over 75 pounds of hops in an 11 bbl batch…that’s 5 lbs per barrel! This beauty is extremely smooth and boasts a true hop explosion. In classic Porter(our brewer, not the beer) style, it’s a beautifully complex, not overly bitter beer with bright tropical notes. Think Hop Bomb! At 9.3 ABV this beer has little to no heat from the higher alcohol content.
Porter’s a master of taming the high abv and complex hop profiles and this Death by Hops delivers.
Growler fills will be available! $24 for a fill.
And there are still bottles of Coffee Porter and The Nothing available for purchase in the taproom! What’s your excuse for not being there on Thursday?
