Stone Brewing and Pasadena’s Haven Collaborate on New Black IPA

The new Stone Company Store in Pasadena ia about to have its Grand Opening, and the Escondido brewery known for boundry-pushing collaborations has joined up with Pasadena’s own Haven Gastropub and Brewing for a new beer to celebrate Stone coming to LA!

The LA Weekly has the story of the black rye IPA that the two breweries worked on, and the collaboration between Haven’s brewmaster Dave Larsen and Stone’s Steve Gonzales (the Research, Small Batch and Barrel Manager for Stone) sounds like a beer that we can get behind:
…this one we just made is a black rye IPA with New Zealand hops, which is completely different from anything Haven has done and anything Stone has in their catalog. The rye should really complement the New Zealand hops so I’m excited for it.
I got to briefly speak to Larson during the LA Beer Week closing festival, and he was super excited about the beers he’s been brewing and the buzz that Haven has been getting. If you haven’t yet tried any of their beers head up to the Pasadena Pub (just a few block off the metro station) and get a flight.
Check out the LA Weekly interview for more details on how the collaboration came together, and we’ll update this post as more details about the Stone/Haven brew are revealed!

Want.
A train-ride is in order when this goes on-tap.
This sounds delicious. I wonder if it will get released outside Pasadena. If not I’ll have to come up for some.
Kegs will probably end up at the Orange location, too. But the kicker is that Haven doesn’t bottle or even have a license to fill growlers yet, so this might be a draft-only release!
