Beer festivals are fun, and it’s a great way to try new brews and hang out with all your great beer-friends, but sometimes it’s tough to escape that feeling of “if you’ve been to one beer festival, you’ve been to them all.” Crowds, usual-suspect breweries pouring 3-ounces of their flagship beers, and bros with pretzel necklaces cruising for tasters of the highest ABV beers they can find — it’s enough to make you want to just post-up at your favorite watering hole for a lazy Sunday instead. But on Sunday, April 10th one of LA’s under-the-radar best beer events of the year is going down at Eagle Rock Brewery, and this year Session Fest is bigger than ever before!
We’ve talked about Session Fest a couple times before, but if you’re unfamiliar with the concept the event is a celebration of creative and flavorful beers that are under 5% alcohol. Eagle Rock Brewery started Session Fest back in 2010 and the tradition of brewery employees — not just the brewers but everyone from the tasting room to the sales force — making a small batch of session-friendly beer to serve at the festival. For last year’s event the staff of the Eagle Rock Public House also pitched in, and in a few years beers from other local breweries have also made an appearance. This year looks to be the biggest Session Fest yet, with not only one-off beers from the Eagle Rock Brewing and Public House getting tapped alongside brews from well over a dozen of your favorite other local breweries.
Festival organizer and ERB co-owner Ting Su says:
You know how much we love our session beers and this is our FAVORITE event of the year! We’re expanding the event this year, so be sure to save the date for the biggest small beer event in LA!
Our crew from both the brewery and Eagle Rock Public House have brewed up some special beers just for the event and we’ve got a whole bunch of other breweries participating this year too. Our local friends from Arts District, Beachwood, El Segundo, Craftsman, Highland Park, Kinetic, Noble Ale Works, Sanctum Brewing, Phantom Carriage, Strand, Three Weavers, Bravery, MacLeod, Craftsman, Wolf Creek, King Harbor, Alosta and Angel City are joining in on the fun. AND we’ll also be featuring by our friends at Bagby Beer (Oceanside) and Henhouse Brewing (Petaluma).
This is going to be AMAZING so be sure to come on out for the festivities! We’ll also have food from Eagle Rock Public House as well as vegan options from Plant Food for People on hand to fill your bellies with even more goodness!
Tickets are only $18 and include a commemorative glass 9oz Session Fest glass, 3 full pours in said glass, and an amazing time with your favorite beer people.
That sounds like one hell of a lineup, and one of the great things about Session Fest is instead of 3 or 4 ounces of beer, you get a whole half-pint* pour for your drink ticket!
Some of the highlight brews from prior Session Fests have been BS IPA (a session-strength black IPA), the original incarnation of ERB’s now seasonal Ginger Saison, Cold Shilling light Scottish ale, and the infamous Beetlegeist stout brewed with actual insect parts! Eagle Rock Brewing Session Fest gets the official Beer of Tomorrow Stamp of Awesomeness, and if you miss this party you are sure to be very, very sad.
Hope to see you on Sunday!
