Craft Beer in the City of Angels
In December a few Los Angeles-area home brewers, one of whom runs OC Beer Blog and is a member of the LA Beer Bloggers, took a Wonka-like trip to Chico to brew beer at Sierra Nevada’s brewery. The fruits of their once-in-a-lifetime beercation will be flowing from taps around town this weekend! Here’s where you can get a taste, and what you can expect from the beer.
Ray Daniels (Twitter link), known in the craft beer world as the founder of the Cicerone Certification Program, recently posted some comments that Boston Beer Company’s founder Jim Koch made in the trade publication Craft Business Daily (subscription required) that basically amount to Koch damning canned beer.
Sierra Nevada Brewing has put together a new variety pack that should be hitting shelves in August, and it is made up of four brand-new beers that were developed during the breweries Willy Wonka-esque Beercamp. Read more →

The singularity holding the universe of craft beer together is personal preference. We wouldn’t have a craft beer industry without the fearless pioneers who stood up to the group-think of mass-produced American Beers and began to make their own beer that tasted the way they liked their beer to taste. It is important to know your own tastes so you can work to refine or expand them. These beers are my five favorite beers, my go-tos, beers that never disappoint.
The proper glassware for craft beer is a well-worn topic with the general consensus being tulips, snifters, and nonic pints being the three must-have glasses to cover most popular craft beer styles. When it comes to the most popular craft beer style in America, the American IPA, the usual recommendation is a nonic pint, but why shouldn’t this iconic and distinct style have its own signature glass-style? Something that would highlight all the qualities of the IPA that have made it so popular: the hoppy aromas, the lively carbonation, and the thick robust head?
