**UPDATE 9/24/12** We got a look a the location during the open hosue last week, and we’ve posted a small gallery of pictures of the space with details on their “soft-opening” hours and growler fills!

**UPDATE 9/13/12** Details of the Sneak Preview of the Stone Company Store have been added to the LA Beer Week calendar! On Thursday September 20th the Pasadena location will open-up for a sneak preview. $25 gets you admission to the event, four 8-ounce tasters of extra special Stone beers, snacks, and a commemorative glass. **UPDATE 9/6/12** While there is no official date for the opening of the Stone Company Store in Pasadena, a recent tweet from Stone says that their goal is to be open in time for LA Beer Week (which runs from September 20th to September 30th). 

Big news from Stone Brewing today! The LA Times reports that Stone will open a retail store on South Raymond Ave near Old Town in Pasadena (*UPDATE 9/13/12*: the adress of the store is 220 S. Raymond Ave Suite 103, Pasadena, CA 91105 just a BLOCK from the Del Mar Gold Line Metro station!), and the location may be operating as early as this August! It sounds like the “Company Store” will mirror their location in South Park San Diego and have all manner of Stone merchandise available to purchase, and more importantly coolers for stone beers, keg beer, and a growler-filling station! Oh how our hearts fill with joy knowing that when some awesome limited release Stone beer is available for growler-fills we will only be 15 miles away!

How Bitter Is Your Beer?

Bitterness is a key component in a beer’s flavor there to balance out the sweetness of the malts and prevent beer from tasting like a “barley soda.” The mass-produced American Light Lager beers are so light in body that they only need a touch of bitterness to find balance, and many people have trouble adapting to the more assertive bitterness in craft beers. Few beer drinkers we know of started off loving the very bitter double IPAs, but like with coffee, dark chocolate, and grapefruit you can develop your palate to enjoy the bitterness in beer.
