The beer business in Los Angeles is booming! Nothing but good news from small breweries expanding their production capabilities and product offerings, to the (re)opening of a new LA hotspot, to the reprieve in the fate of one of Orange County’s favorite beer spots!
Join El Segundo Brewing Co for a Party to Celebrate the Release of Bottle Beer
Not yet two years old, South Bay brewery El Segundo Brewing Co. had begun bottling their beer! We originally told you about their plan to bottle about a month ago, and this Friday the first run of bottles will go on-sale in the tap room before hitting distribution.
The brewery has used a truck-based mobile bottling line to packed 22oz bombers of their new imperial stout Standard Crude as well as bottles of one of our very favorite brewed-in-LA-beers: the White IPA White Dog IPA.
The brewery is holding a couple of bottle release events, the first of which is in the taproom on this Friday, February 1st at 5pm.
Friday February 1st, 5pm: The bottles will start selling. We will be tapping a cask of Rum-soaked and Oaked Hyperion’s Double Stout we have been sitting on for the occasion. We will have savory pies (meat and veggie) from El Segundo Catering.
We will be here, drinking and celebrating.
Join us! And buy some of our first run of bottles!
You can also grab bottles at Redondo Beach’s Select Beer Store before Sunday’s Superbowl game. Stop by and chat with Tom Kelley from ESCB while you fill your basket with Standard Crude and White Dog!
ESBC has also stated that they are expanding their fermentation capacity again to keep up with the surging demand for their crisp and hoppy brews. The brewery is adding 2 more large 60BBL (1890 gallon) fermentation tanks and a bright tank to hold finished beer waiting to be packaged.
Angel City Brewing Opens Tap Room for Limited Hours
After over a year of improvements and renovations to the cavernous space in the Downtown Arts District, the crew and Angel City Brewing are finally opening their doors to the public for limited hours!
We showed you some pictures of the amazing space during their first open house event, and Thursday through Sunday you now have a chance to have a pint at the gorgeous, glass bead encrusted, deco bar. They will be offering tours of the facility, selling merch, and offering 2-4 Angel City Beers including the well-regarded Eureka Wit and the Angeleno IPA (which seems to get hoppier with every batch.)
Most exciting for many is that ACB will now be filling growlers for you to take home to enjoy!
The official grand opening will be this spring, and until then check their site for the taproom hours.
Haven Gastropub Takes Over The Bruery Provisions Retail Space
When Orange County’s The Bruery announced that they were abandoning their destination beer and food retail location in the Orange Circle there was a near audible cry from beer fans across the Southland. The loss of such a respected bottle shop was a hard pill for beer geeks to swallow, even if it did mean that the Bruery could re-focus more attention on brewing their amazing beers. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long to hear the fate of the space; the Haven Collective (operators of Haven Gastropub in OC and Haven Gastropub + Brewing in Pasadena) have announced that they are taking over the space.
The tasting room, bottle shop and specialty market, once owned by OC-based The Bruery, closed earlier this month after more than two years of business, and has been placed in the caring hands of the haven collective team. Provisions, as it will now be called, will continue to operate as a space where guests will be able to enjoy great craft beer and craft eats.
Provisions will continue to feature craft beers on tap with a rotating tap list that will compliment those of its neighboring Haven Gastropub, and will feature a deeper selection of wine, for both in-house consumption and retail purchase. Executive Chef Greg Daniels will oversee the culinary aspect of the operation, with emphasis on great cheeses, charcuterie, fresh breads, deli sandwiches and an expanded prepared food selection.
While were never able to actually visited the original Bruery Provisions location, we are quite happy to hear that the bottle-shop and gourmet market will live on in the caring and capable hands of the Haven team.
We will have a report once the location is open for business again.
