I don’t think that Brewery Ommegang quite knew what it was getting into when it released the first beer in their Game of Thrones series. The Iron Throne blonde ale was a huge cross-over hit, and bottles quickly disappeared from store shelves. The next beer in the series – Take the Black Stout – is set for release, and Hollywood’s Blue Palms Brewhouse is throwing a party to launch the beer – and to say farewell to LA Beer Week 5 – on Sunday, and you can win tickets from Beer of Tomorrow!
The brewery has this to say about the Take the Black Stout:
Inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch, Take the Black Stout was made to be deep, dark and complex like those who have sworn the oath to defend Westeros against threats from the north. The label depicts the Weirwood tree where Jon Snow recited the oath before joining the Night’s Watch.
The 7% ABV beer is spiced with licorice root and star anise, and it may not be the approachable crowd-pleaser that their Iron Throne blonde ale was.
Regardless, the Blue Palms party is sure to be memorable as they put together a special Game of Thrones inspired menu to go along with the line-up of brews from Ommegang, Duvel, Chouffe, and Liefmans.
Costumed revelers are welcome, but even more exciting is that Blue Palms will be taking over the roof-top space at the adjacent Music Box Theater. If you’ve never enjoyed Music Box’s rooftop bar, this will be a perfect way to say goodbye to LA Beer Week, nosh on sausages, and drink Belgian brews!
The party begins at 1pm on Sunday, September 29th, and the $15 presale tickets ($20 at the door if it doesn’t sell-out) get you a sausage, a pour of the Take The Black Stout, and a Game of Thrones glass to take home.
